 Old paint becomes "chalky" as it oxidizes.
If you're cleaning something that's quite old, or has been out in the sun for a while, don't be alarmed if it seems that some of the "colour" is coming off on your cleaning cloth.
What's happening is that you are actually removing the oxidized portion of the paint coat.
You'll notice that the paint is brighter and more colourful once the oxidized paint is cleaned.
You may want to protect that paint from oxidizing quickly by applying a coat of clear wax after you are finished cleaning the affected area.
